Ten Days After The Incident

If you're reading this, you have probably read my previous blog post about how my ex dream company declared me unfit to work because of my weight. If you haven't read it yet, well... you should.

Today is the 10th day after I posted that blog, and I just want to share that I was interviewed a couple of days ago by BusinessWorld. You can read more about my experience in BusinessWorld Weekender. (You can find the link to the article below)

The article is about weight discrimination, specifically in recruitment processes. To be honest, it was a little difficult for me to talk about my experience in more detail. Although my experience wasn't all that bad until the end of the hiring process, it was still a little tough for me to relive it.

I believe that I have moved on from the experience. Of course, I would admit that I felt sad and heartbroken when it happened, but after a few days, I told myself that being sad about something will not change the situation. I made it a point to just focus on the positive side of things, and spend my energy on more productive work.

Don't get me wrong, though. Just because I've moved on from what happened to me doesn't mean I believe that it's okay for companies to use discriminatory hiring processes. I still strongly believe in equal opportunity employment. No one should be denied of opportunities just because of weight, age, gender, race, or religion.

While I do believe that society has made much progress, there is still a lot of work to be done. There are still a lot of barriers created by discrimination in all aspects of life, not just in employment, and we need to break them down.

So basically, it was like a dream for me. I graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree in 2014, and I started working for a Telecommunications company that same year. I had a lot of friends there, and my colleagues and I got along really well. I was fine. Fast forward to a year after, and opportunities started to present themselves. I decided to leave my first job and  thought that the decision would be best for me so I can advance my career. After all, I didn't want to be just fine . I then found myself going to interviews for 5 other companies, and yes, including an airline. Of all the interviews that I went to, I was the most nervous about the one with my ...
