If you're reading this, you have probably read my previous blog post about how my ex dream company declared me unfit to work because of my weight. If you haven't read it yet, well... you should.
Today is the 10th day after I posted that blog, and I just want to share that I was interviewed a couple of days ago by BusinessWorld. You can read more about my experience in BusinessWorld Weekender. (You can find the link to the article below)
The article is about weight discrimination, specifically in recruitment processes. To be honest, it was a little difficult for me to talk about my experience in more detail. Although my experience wasn't all that bad until the end of the hiring process, it was still a little tough for me to relive it.
I believe that I have moved on from the experience. Of course, I would admit that I felt sad and heartbroken when it happened, but after a few days, I told myself that being sad about something will not change the situation. I made it a point to just focus on the positive side of things, and spend my energy on more productive work.
Don't get me wrong, though. Just because I've moved on from what happened to me doesn't mean I believe that it's okay for companies to use discriminatory hiring processes. I still strongly believe in equal opportunity employment. No one should be denied of opportunities just because of weight, age, gender, race, or religion.
While I do believe that society has made much progress, there is still a lot of work to be done. There are still a lot of barriers created by discrimination in all aspects of life, not just in employment, and we need to break them down.
